Limitations

 

1.       Plugs

          The Agreement covers the appliances listed including their supply cord (if any) but excluding their plug.

          Appliances with a supply cord or cord set marketed in a member country, shall be provided with a plug which is appropriate for that country and which has been certified according to the relevant standard.

2.       Special National Condition for Norway (EN 60335-1, Subcl. 19.5).

          Appliances permanently connected to fixed wiring having a single pole switch cannot be used. In order to avoid this use it should be indicated in the instructions for use as well as in the licence document: “Not suitable for use in Norway” (in instructions for use in Norwegian language only).

3.       Special National Condition for Austria (EN 60335-1, Subcl. 19.11.2).

          Appliances having circuits which may cause under one fault condition (e.g. failure of basic insulation*) an earth leakage current having a d.c. component exceeding 5mA or exceeding 20% of the total earth leakage current, whatever is the higher, shall be accompanied with instructions giving the necessary information with regard to the required type of residual current device.

          (*) Failure of double or reinforced insulation is not taken into account.

4.       Special National Condition for Ireland and United Kingdom (EN 60335-1, Subcl. 25.8).

          Appliances having a rated current over 10A up to and including 13A supplied with a power supply cord having a nominal cross-sectional area of less than 1.5 mm2 are excluded from the scheme.

5.       Special National Condition for Norway (EN 60335-2-7 : 1997, washing machines, Subcl. 22.101) :

          Washing machines not complying with this test carried out at twice the permissible inlet pressure or 2.0 Mpa, whichever is the greater, are not allowed. In order to make this known it should be indicated in the instructions for use as well as in the licence document of such machines. “Not suitable for use in Norway” (in instructions for use in Norwegian language only).

6.       Special National Condition or A-deviation for Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland (EN 60335-2-16 : 1996, food waste disposers, Cl. I) :

          Installation of food waste disposers is not allowed or depends upon permission of authorities responsible for the sewage systems. In order to make this known this information should be indicated in the instructions for use as well as in the licence document (in instructions for use in the language(s) of all relevant countries).

 

7.      Special National Condition for Finland - EN 60335-2-29:2004:

Polyvinylchloride sheathed cords are not allowed for chargers for charging automobile batteries in outdoor use or locations where the temperature is equal to the outdoor temperature.

          In order to avoid this it should be indicated in the instructions for use as well as in the licence document: “Not suitable for use in Finland” (in instructions for use in Finnish language only).

          NOTE

          An action was started in April 2000 by the Finnish Authorities for the withdrawal of this Special National Condition for Finland.

 

8.       A-deviation for France (EN 60335-2-30: 1997, room heaters, Subcl. 11.8).

          Fixed room heaters other than those for mounting at high level, for which the temperature rise of air-outlet grilles and their immediate surround exceeds 115K, are not allowed to be used. In order to make this known it should be indicated in the instructions for use as well as in the licence document of such heaters: “Not suitable for use in France” (in instructions for use in French language only).

 

9.       Special National Condition for France (EN 60335-2-30: 1997, room heaters, Subcl. 25.3):

          Fixed room heaters which are not intended to be permanently connected to fixed wiring cannot be used.

          In order to avoid this it should be indicated in the instructions for use as well as in the licence document of such heaters: “Not suitable for use in France” (in instructions for use in French language only).

 

10.     A-deviations for Germany (EN 60335-2-31: 1997, range hoods, Subcl. 7.1 and 7.12) :

          Range hoods of the exhaust-air type without the following warnings near the exhaust-air opening (7.1) and in the instructions for use (7.12) are not allowed :

 

          (7.1)       Achtung ! Warnhinweis zum Abluftbetrieb im Anweisungsblatt beachten.

 

          (7.12)     Bei gleichzeitigem Betrieb der Dunstabzugshaube im Abluftbetrieb und Feuerstätten darf im Austellraum der Feuerstätte der Unterdruck nicht grösser als 4 Pa (4 x 10-5 bar) sein (or similar text).

 

          In order to make this known it should be indicated in the instructions for use as well as in the licence document of such range hoods: “Not suitable for use in Germany” (in instructions for use in German language only).

 

11.     Special National Condition for The Netherlands (EN 60335-2-54, surface cleaning appliances, Subcl. 6.1):

          Handheld cleaning appliances other than those of Class II and Class III are not allowed. In order to make this known it should be indicated in the instructions for use as well as in the licence document of such appliances: “Not suitable for use in The Netherlands” (in instructions for use in Dutch language only).

 

12.     A-deviation for France (EN 60335-2-61: 1996, thermal storage room heaters, Subcl. 11.8):

          Thermal storage room heaters of which the temperature rise for air-outlet grilles and their immediate surrounds exceeds 130K are not allowed. In order to make this known it shall be indicated in the instructions for use as well as the licence document of such heaters: “Not suitable for use in France” (in instructions for use in French language only).

13.       A-deviation for Sweden (EN 60335-2-6:1999, particular requirements for stationary cooking ranges, hobs, ovens and similar appliances, clause 22):

          Cooking ranges shall be constructed, or be provided with devices, so that the hob elements, with cooking utensils placed on them, are not or cannot be made easily accessible to children. Ovens shall be constructed so that they are not or cannot be made easily accessible to children.

          For cooking ranges or ovens which do not comply with the above-mentioned requirement, it should be indicated in the instructions for use, as well as in the licence document: “Not suitable for use in Sweden” (in instructions for use in Swedish language only).

          NOTE (see EN 60335-2-6: 1999 – Annex ZB)

          Cooking ranges having hob elements located at a distance from the front of the hob so that they are out of easy reach of children and cooking ranges, the hob of which is or can be provided with a protective guard reaching at least 10 cm above the hob and covering the front as well as the sides of the hob to a distance of at least 20 cm measured from the front, are considered to meet the first requirement.

          Ovens intended to be placed at a height exceeding 80 cm above the floor and ovens having doors which cannot be opened by a simple operation are considered to meet the second requirement.

14.      A-deviation for Germany (EN 60335-2-86: 2000, Electric fishing machines, sub-clause 22.101):

The use of alternating current for catching fish is not allowed. For fishing machines which do not comply with the above-mentioned requirement, it should be indicated in the instructions for use, as well as in the licence document: “Not suitable for use in Germany” (in instructions for use in German language only).

 

15.     Special National Condition for Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden (EN 60335-2-21:1999, Subcl. 22.101):

          For closed water heaters, the minimum rated pressure is 1,0 MPa.

          When these Special National Conditions have not been covered the Instructions for Use and the Licence Document should say: "Not suitable for use in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden".

          A-deviation for United Kingdom (EN 60335-2-21:1999, Subcl. 24.101):

          In addition to a non-self-resetting thermal cut-out, any closed water heater having a storage capacity in excess of 15 l shall be fitted with a temperature relief valve according to BS 6283 Part 2 or a combined temperature and pressure relief valve according to BS 6283 Part 3.

          When this Deviation has not been covered the Instructions for Use and the Licence Document should say: "Not suitable for use in United Kingdom".

          A-deviation for United Kingdom (EN 60335-2-21:1999, Subcl. 24.102):

          The water temperature of the stored water shall not at any time exceed 99ºC in closed water heaters having a storage capacity in excess of 15 l.

          When this Deviation has not been covered the Instructions for Use and the Licence Document should say: "Not suitable for use in United Kingdom".

          A-deviation for Denmark (EN 60335-2-21:1999, Clause 24):

          Components shall have a minimum rated pressure of 1,0 MPa.

          When this Deviation has not been covered the Instructions for Use and the Licence Document should say: "Not suitable for use in Denmark".

 

16.     Socket outlets on appliances

 

The Agreement excludes socket-outlets on appliances for the supply of other appliances if these socket-outlets are compatible with plugs for which limitation 1 applies. Such socket-outlets shall be appropriate for the country in which the appliance is marketed and have to be certified according to the relevant standard.
